      RNA interference (RNAi) is the phenomenon ofgene silencing by double-stranded RNA (dsRNA) at trans-criptional and post-transcriptional levels in a sequence-specific manner. Reverse genetic approaches using RNAinterference (RNAi) have become a major tool for biologicalresearches since its discovery in the nematode Caenorhabditiselegans . In this review, we overview how the RNAi phenomenonwas discovered and how the underlying mechanism hasbeen elucidated. We also describe and discuss how RNA iexperiments can be performed and how RNAi can be usedfor genetic studies.
