김 양식산업의 현황과 발전 방안 = Current status and enhancement plans of Porphyra cultivation industry in Korea

국문 초록 (Abstract)

해조류양식은 국내 수산양식산업의 근간이 되는 가장 중요한 기간산업의 하나이고, 해조류 양식 산업 가운데 김 양식 산업은 2005년 수산통계연보에 의하면 연간 약 20만톤 (습중량)의 생산량에 약 200백만달러 이상의 생산 금액으로 이는 전 세계 김 양식 생산량의 30%에 상응하는 규모이다.
국내의 김 양식생산량은 양식기술의 진보와 가공시설의 자동화, 다수확품종의 개발 등에 따라 최근 크게 증가하였다. 그러나 과도한 생산량 증가는 김 가격하락을 야기하였고, 김 양식어업인들은 가격하락으로 인해 수입 감소분의 보전을 위해 보다 많은 양의 김을 생산해야만 하는 과잉생산시스템으로 수지타산이 맞지 않아 국내의 김 양식 산업은 오늘날 쇠퇴일로에 직면해 있다.
따라서 본 논문에서는 우리나라 김 양식 산업이 직면해 있는 문제점들을 심도있게 파악하고 이들 문제점들의 해결방안을 제시함으로써 우리나라 김 양식 산업의 발전에 일조할 수 있는 자료를 제공코자하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Seaweed cultivation is a major fisheries industry in Korea. Although a number of cultivation of seaweeds is now well known, Porphyra cultivation is a very important industry in fisheries of Korea. The total production of Porphyra from Korea was approximately 191,623 tonnes (wet weight) and retail value was about US＄ 191 million in 2005. This makes the Porphyra cultivation in Korea, which produces about 30% of the world's total.
Due to development of modern techniques, mechanization of processing and popularization of the fast-growing varieties of Porphyra, the annual yield of Porphyra products in Korea has increased rapidly. However, several problems have arisen in accordance with policies accentuating production increase. As a result of over-production of Porphyra sheets, profits due to fishermen have decreased and the number of Porphyra cultivation fishermen, particularly newcomers, to the industry, has decreased rapidly. At present, this is one of the most serious problems facing the Korean Porphyra industry.
This paper outlines recent Porphyra cultivation status and enhancement plans for Porphyra cultivation industry in Korea are discussed.
