이미지에서 서사로, 악몽에서 일상으로 = 편혜영 소설의 변화와 2010년대 소설의 향방

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 논문은 편혜영 소설의 변화를 통해 한국소설의 방향을 진단해 보는 것을 목적으로 한 것이다. 2000년대의 대표작가라 할 수 있는 편혜영의 소설세계는 ‘이미지에서 서사로, 악몽에서 일상으로’ 변화하였다고 요약할 수 있다. 편혜영 소설의 이러한 변화는 일반적으로는 이미지 과잉의 추상적 세계로부터 현실적 문맥을 반영하는 서사의 영역으로 전환된 결과라고 평가할 수 있다. 그러나 이러한 변화에도 불구하고 편혜영 소설의 심층적 의미는 큰 변화없이 지속되고 있다고 판단된다. 외부 세계에 대한 불안과 공포에 부딪쳐 일상의 세계를 폐쇄적이고 한정적인 공간으로 축소시킨다는 난점이 그대로 유지되기 때문이다. 외부의 낯선 타자와의 조우를 통해 폐쇄공포의 한계를 돌파하는 것이 편혜영 소설의 과제가 될 것이다. 편혜영 소설의 결여는 2000년대 문학의 결여와 상통한다. 2000년대 문학에 대한 과잉해석을 걷어내고 2010년대 문학의 과제를 탐구하는 작업이 절실히 필요한 지점이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The main purpose of this article is to scrutinize the direction of contemporary novels through the analysis of Pyun Hye-Young’s novels. As one of the representative writers of 2000s, the world of her novles changes ‘from image to narrative, nightmare to dailiness.’ This change is generally evaluated as a result of turning from the abstract world of excessive image to the narrative world reflecting the context of the reality. Regardless of this change, however, the in-depth world of her novels remains unchanged, in that it still has knotty point where daily world is contracted in confined and limitative space by colliding with uneasiness and fear of the outer world. The prime subject of her future work would be breaking through the boundary of claustrophobia through meeting with the strange and danger others of the outer world. The deficiency of her novel is closely linked to that of 2000s’ literary works. It is high time to explore new possibilities of 2010s by getting rid of over-estimating the 2000s’ works.
