종교 세속화의 한 측면으로서 소속 없는 신앙인들에 대한 연구

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구에서는 종교사회학에서 말하는 세속화의 한 측면으로서 우리 사회에서 교회를 떠난 ‘소속 없는 신앙인들’에 대하여 논의한다. 일명 가나안 성도라고도 불리는 이들의 기본 특성과 그들이 교회를 떠나게 된 이유와 과정 그리고 교회와 신앙생활에 대한 이들의 생각을 설문 조사를 통해 분석하였다. 설문 조사는 소속 없는 신앙인들의 실체와 특성을 파악하여 목회의 자료로 제공하고자 하는 목적으로 이루어졌다. 특히, 가나안 성도는 최근 미국과 유럽에서 논의되고 있는 ‘소속 없는 신앙’이나 ‘영적이기는 하나 종교적이지 않은’ 기독교인들의 특성을 표출하는 것이라고 보고 이러한 특성과 종교 세속화와의 연관성을 연구하기 위한 기초 자료로 삼고자 하는 것이다. 조사 결과로 볼 때 우리 사회에서 교회를 떠난 이들이 교회라는 제도 자체를 거부하는 탈제도화의 경향이나 무교회주의를 주장하는 것이라기보다는 기존 교회가 지나치게 제도화 또는 관료제화 되는 것에 대한 저항으로 교회를 떠난 것으로 이해하는 것이 적절할 것이라고 판단된다. 이 조사 결과를 통해 우리 사회에서 종교의 세속화에 대한 연구를 심화시키고 한국인의 종교성에 대한 이해를 확장시키는 데 기여하고자 하였다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This research is about what religio-sociologist considers as an aspect of secularization, those the society refers to as ‘Believers without Belongingness,’ those who have left the church. Dubbed as ‘Canaan believers,’ their general characteristics and their reason for leaving and their thoughts on church and their Christian life are analyzed through a survey. The survey is aimed at analyzing the substance and the characteristics of these ‘believers without belongingness’ for the purpose of providing pastoral resources. Especially, these ‘Canaan believers’ are considered to be displaying the specifics of what has recently been discussed in America and Europe, Christians who are ‘spiritual but not religious’ or ‘believers without belongingness.’ It is for this reason the connection between their specifics and the secularization of religion are researched. According to the research, those who have left the church in our society are not so much as asserting ‘no church’ or rejecting the institution of church, but rather, it is more appropriate to understand that their leaving the church has to do with their resistance to the over- institutionalization or the bureaucracy of the church. Through this inquiry we attempt to deepen our research into the secularization of religion and further contribute toward understanding the religiosity of the Koreans.
