거리의 정치와 공공미술 광주 금남로 조각의 거리를 중심으로 = The Politics of a Street and The Public Art Focused on The Street of Sculptures at Geumnamro in Gwangju

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The street is not the material space nowadays, but the field of the cultural politics that is unfolded the strife of the meaning and the cultural activities. This paper interprets the meaning of cultural politics on the street of sculptures at Geumnam-ro, the politics and the artistry of a public art. I study the historical memories at Geumnam-ro first of all and the ideology of a representation on the public art. The street of sculptures that is the cultural enjoyment space of citizens spoils the historicity of a place, because the sculptures are not matched with the historicity of Geumnam-ro. In a point of view that Geumnam-ro is a important space of resistance and a representation of the spirit of times, I explain what kind of cultural politics of the representation is to be unfolded on the sculptures at Geumnam-ro.
I criticize the problems that the project of sculptures street have in terms of cultural administration and cultural democracy. The memorial space in May 1980 is raised as important discourse with a establishment of Asian Culture Complex. Because it will be established in the pattern to worship 5.18 democratic movement, Geumnam-ro must be adjusted to this pattern. From this point of view, this paper is a meaningful article in understanding the cultural politics of a place.
