한국 영문법 학습 교재의 변천 : 영어 교육과정 및 평가의 맥락에서 = The History of English Grammar Learning Materials in Korea:

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 한국 영어 교육사의 사실(史實)을 바탕으로 영문법 학습 교재의 시기별 특징을 분석하기 위해 실시되었다. 이를 위해 교육과정 및 입시제도의 구체적 내용과 대학 입시의 기출문항을 교재의 외적 체제, 문법 설명 방식, 연습의 유형과 비교·검토하였다. 분석 결과 연역적 문법 설명, 번역과 영작, 청화식 교수법을 기반으로 한 산출 중심의 연습은 한국 영문법 학습 교재의 전통적인 ‘설명-연습’의 구조 안에서 큰 변화 없이 이어져 내려오고 있었다. 또한 새로운 교수·학습 이론의 흐름이 그 논의의 시기에 맞추어 자연스레 교재에 반영될 것이라는 기대와는 달리 국내 교재에 의사소통을 중심으로 한 의식고양 과제 등이 수록되어 있는 경우는 매우 드물었다. 이는 영미권을 중심으로 발전해 온 교수·학습 이론의 흐름이 국내의 영어 교육 맥락에서는 수용되지 못하는 경우가 있고, 특히 한국의 영문법 학습 교재는 영어 교육과정에서 강조했던 ‘언어 재료’와 같이 문법 형식을 강조하는 교육 정책과 대학 입시, 각종 영어 인증시험의 세환효과라는 또 다른 요인들에 크게 영향 받은 것으로 볼 수 있다. 교재 집필자는 연구자들의 성과물을 교사·학습자에게 전달하는 중개자로서 정확한 학습 문법의 체계를 정립하기 위해 이론 문법에 대한 이해를 높이고, 영어 교수·학습의 다양한 연구 성과뿐만 아니라 교육과정 및 교육 정책에 주의를 기울여 현실적으로 교육현장에 적용할 수 있는 교재의 개발을 위해 노력해야 할 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study was to analyze grammar learning materials published in Korea based on Korean education history. For this reason, the research focused on why and how the materials were made and used in the context of the English curriculum and evaluation. Deductive study, translation and composition, production-based practices based on the audiolingualism have been prevalent in grammar learning materials. Unlike the expectation that teaching and learning theories would be reflected in the learning materials, new approaches such as consciousness-raising tasks or techniques of focus on form instruction were very rare in the domestic materials. It can be explained by the fact that English education theories have been developed in the ESL context of Anglo-American bloc, so it is difficult to accommodate these theories in Korea where English has a position as an entrance examination subject. Rather, the grammar learning materials published in Korea have been influenced by other factors, such as English education policies focusing on grammar forms, and the washback effects caused by university entrance examination and other English certifications. Material writers should deepen their understanding of theoretical grammar as a linguistic science in order to establish a pedagogical grammar system for learning materials. Also, they should strive for the development of educational materials that can be applied realistically to the education field by paying attention to the goals of the national curriculum and education policy.
