Endometritis is inflammation of the endometrium. Endometritis by breeding is major cause of infertility. The incidence of bacterial uterine infections has been reported to be 25~60% in mares. Mares show acute inflammatory response by semen after mating, which is charaterized by the influx of neutrophils, which are important in the physiological defense mechanism. The normal uterine inflammatory response in mare disappears within 48 hours after mating, but if inflammation persists, this is expressed as persistent post breeding endometritis (PPBE). Chronic endometritis is caused by bacteria and although the condition may have stemmed from PPBE. The diagnosis of endometritis is used three methods (ultrasonography, cytological and bacteriological examination, histology). This study was conducted in non-pregant mares(Jeju cross breed and Jeju horses) raised at Subtrophical Livestock Research Institute between 2016 and 2017. The non-pregnant mares with endometritis was diagnosed by ultrasonography, cytological and bacteriological examination used EQUIVET uterine culture swab (KRUUSE, Denmark). The rate of non-pregnancy was 9.16% (11/120) and the percentage diagnosed with endometritis of non-pregnancy mares was 18.18% (2/11).
