여성소방공무원의 ‘외상 후 스트레스 장애 (PTSD)’와 대처방안에 대한 연구 = A Study on Female Paramedics’ Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Solution

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 여성구급대원들이 경험한 외상 후 스트레스장애(Post-traumatic stress disorder, PTSD)의 특징을 분석하고 대안 탐색을 위한 정책적 시사점을 찾는데 있다. PTSD는 소방·구급대원들에게 매우 심각한 문제이고, 이에 대한 학계의 관심도 높은 편이다. 그러나 소방·구급대원 전체를 대상으로 한 연구는 많지만, 여성구급대원들을 선택적으로 분석한 연구는 거의 없다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 여성구급대원들을 연구대상으로 설정하고, 심층면접(in-depth interview) 조사방법으로 참여자 10명의 외상 경험을 수집하였다. 현상학적 분석방법으로 면접내용을 분석한 결과 부정적 기억, 공포감, 상실감, 심계항진, 수면장애 등 9가지의 특성을 찾을 수 있었고, 이 중에서는 여성구급대원만이 겪을 수 있는 남녀차별 같은 고유한 특성도 발견하였다. 또한, PTSD 문제를 대처하기 위해서는 개인적 차원의 노력도 필요하지만, 근무제도 개선 등의 정책적인 노력도 병행되어야 한다는 시사점을 도출할 수 있었다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The study aims to investigate symptoms of female paramedics’ Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and to find policy implication for reasonable suggestions to solve the problem. PTSD is no doubt a matter of concern for fire fighters and paramedics, and there is considerable interest from scholars. Many studies researched fire fighters as a whole, however, there have been few studies only about female paramedics regarding PTSD. Thus, we targeted women paramedics as the object of study and conducted the in-depth interview with 10 women lifesavers too see PTSD. By using the phenomenological method, we analyzed the interview data and found nine characteristics of PTSD including negative thoughts, revulsion, sense of loss, palpitation, sleep disorder and so on. Among the nine types of experiences, there was a specific one such as sexual discrimination. From the interview data analysis, we found the implication that in order to overcome PTSD, not only personal exertion but also policies reforming an irrational system should go hand in hand.
