The following conclusion was reached after comparing and testing the effects that Gibberellin treatment gave on the Cyclaman growth.
First,
In the growth of peduncle, compared with the standard area, the 1-5 ppm Gibberellin area had 1∼2.4cm longer one while the 10-15ppm Gibberellin area on the contrary 0.2∼2.2cm shorter one. The reason of the above result, I think, was that the thickness of the 1-5 ppm area was proper to the growth, while that of the 10-15 ppm area was very thick and harmful to the growth.
Second,
In the flowering, the size of the flower-petal in the area given Gibberellin treatment was ramarkably bigger than that of the standard area. I would say the reason was that on the same day when I measured the size of the maturest petal in the Gibberellin area, I measured the flower-bud in the standard area. It took 17-27 days for the bud to fully bloom, so I could guess that the time of blooming came earlier: the 5ppm area having the earliest blooming and the 10 ppm area the next.
Third,
In the leafstalk growth, all the areas given Gibberellin treatment had shorter leafstalks than those of the standard area. So I could realize that bad effects of chemicals worked on the leafstalk growth.
Forth,
In the leaf growth, all the areas given Gibberellin treatment had smaller leaves than the standard area because of some chemical's-harm. Particulary, of them, the 15 ppm area which was most seriously harmed by chemicals had the smallest leaves while the 1 ppm area had the biggest leaves, but smaller than those of the standard area. But the leaves of the 1 ppm area were smaller than those of standard area.
From the above tests and observations, I can conclude as follows: If the thickness of Gibberellin treatment is proper, the peduncle grows longer and flowers begin to bloom 17∼27 days earlier. But because of chemical's harm, no effect was had on the growth of both leafstalks and leaves in the whole Gibberellin treated areas, regardless of thickness.
