斷石山 神仙寺 磨崖造像에 대하여 = A Reconsideration of the Chronology of the Buddhist Statues in the Sinsun Temple at Dansug Mountain, Gyungju

국문 초록 (Abstract)

斷石山 神仙寺 磨崖彿의 조성시기에 대해서는 삼국말부터 고려시대까지로 보아왔다. 신선사 명문(造成記)를 통하여 고찰하여 본 인물상 및 마애불상군의 조성시기는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 신선사 명문관련 미륵삼존불상은 인명표기, 46병려체 등으로 보면, 통일신라로 보는 쪽이 옳을 듯하다.
둘째, 또한 종래 供養像으로 보아왔던 人物像은 미를삼존상(통일신라)과는 관계가 없으며, 6세기의 원시신앙의 所産으로 생각된다.
셋째, 나머지 불보상들은 7세기 초에 제작된 것으로 보고자 한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The majority of Korean scholars have considered that the rock-cut Trinity and other Buddhist statues in the Sinsun Temple were carved in the same time period sometime between at the end of the Silla Dynasty and the beginning of the Goryo Dynasty. In this paper, however, I argue that all the Buddhist statues in the temple might not have been carved in the same period; they were independently carved in a different time period. First of all, the Trinity seems to have been carved during the Unified Silla Dynasty (ca. 676-935), according to examining the specific way of taking names of people (人名表記) during the Silla Dynasty and the writing style in the sentence engraved next to the Trinity. Second of all, in the past many Korean scholars have thought that the two human statues located right hand side of the Trinity might have been associated with the Trinity, but they do not seem to be related each other. Because the appearance of the human statues do not seem to be related to the early Silla Buddhism. Rather they might have been related to the traditional Silla belief system. Last of all, the rest of the Buddhist statues (ca. six or seven of them in total) engraved on the rock around the Trinity might have been carved at the beginning of the seventh century as many Korean scholars have postulated.
