5~6세기 묘제의 연속과 단절로 본 백제 서남부지역의 정치적 동향 = The Political Trend of the Southwestern Region of Paekche Assessed from the Continuity and Severance of Tomb-Styles in the 5th and 6th Centuries

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In order to understand the political trend of the southwestern region of Paekche during the 5th and 6th centuries, this paper explores the characteristics of the transformation in its tomb-styles, one of the factors that reflect the political relationship of the time. The tomb-style of southwestern Paekche during this period can be evaluated as an addition of the tomb-style of central Paekche to the original one, rather than a continuity or severance. Foreign tomb-styles that newly emerged in central and provincial regions of Paekche are assumed to be political monuments intentionally selected to externally parade the intimate political solidarity between both Paekche and the Southern Dynasties of China, as well as Paekche and Wa. It seems as if central Paekche attempted to solve the political crisis caused by Goguryo by implementing an inclusive economic policy symbolized by the spread of central-style pottery to the countryside and an exclusive tomb-style policy that valued the sharing of tomb-styles. It is likely that the inclusive economic policy and exclusive tomb-style policy carried out by the central government of Paekche contributed to not only the alleviation of economic and ritual gap between the central and provincial regions but also the strengthening of their political solidarity.
