The present study aimed to examine whether positive affect, which has been proved to restore the depleted self-regulatory resources, would have the same effect on eating behaviors. To answer the question, an experiment was conducted using 100 female undergraduates who were classified as engaging in restricted eating. Controlling the effects of hunger, the study compared the differences in cookie intake between groups divided based on whether self regulation resources were depleted and whether positive affect was induced, using a two-way ANCOVA. The results revealed that when self-regulatory resources were depleted, the positive affect-induced group regulated eating behaviors more effectively compared to the control group. Recommendations are suggested to improve the regulation of eating behaviors.
