도덕적 생명 향상의 오류 분석

국문 초록 (Abstract)

도덕적 생명 향상을 주장하는 사람들은 현재 인류가 처한 도덕적 곤경이 매우 심각하므로 전통적인 향상 수단에 대한 보완책으로서 도덕적 생명 향상의 효과적인 방법들을 개발할 수 있는 모든 가능성들을 과학적 연구를 통해 탐색하는 것이 절대적으로 필요하다는 견지에서, 도덕적 향상을 위한 생명의학 기술의 사용에 대한 철학적ㆍ도덕적 반대 명분은 존재하지 않는다고 주 장한다. 이 논문은 이러한 주장이 갖고 있는 오류를 윤리학적 측면과 도덕교육적 측면에서 비 판적으로 분석하였다. 윤리학적인 입장에서 볼 때 도덕적 생명 향상은 강제성 오류, 환원주의 오류, 방법론적 개인주의 오류를 범하고 있다. 그리고 도덕교육적 측면에서 볼 때 도덕적 생명 향상은 도덕적 디자인에 불과하며, 도덕적 정체성의 본질을 왜곡하는 문제점을 갖고 있다. 그러므로 강제적이고 의무적인 방식을 통해 모든 사람들의 도덕적 생명 향상을 추구해야 한다는 주장은 설득력을 지닐 수가 없다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Those who are fully absorbed in moral bioenhancement suggest that there are in principle no philosophical or moral objections to the use of biomedical means of moral enhancement and that the current moral predicament of humankind is so serious that it is imperative that scientific research explore every possibility of developing effective means of moral bioenhancement, as a complement of traditional means. The purpose of this article was to analyze the errors of such suggestion in a critical manner. In a viewpoint of ethics, moral bioenhancement commits three important errors such as compulsivity, reductionism and methodological individualism. In a viewpoint of moral education, it is not based on the logic of education but that of simple designing. Furthermore moral bioenhancement does deny the right to negotiate children's moral identities. Therefore it is not persuasive that moral bioenhancement for all the people should be done in obligatory or compulsory ways.
