약리학적 신경 향상에 의한 최근의 도덕적 향상 논리는 활발한 학술 활동을 통해 그 필요 성과 정당성을 확산시키고 있으며, 전통적인 도덕적 향상 방법인 도덕교육의 무용성을 날카 롭게 지적하고 있다. 약리학적 방법에 의한 도덕적 향상을 주장하는 사람들은 전통적인 향상 방법으로서의 도덕교육은 현대 과학기술의 발전 속도를 따라갈 수 없기에 인류가 직면한 도 덕적 문제 해결을 위해 유용한 방법이 될 수 없다는 논리를 펼친다. 이러한 논리는 학교에서 의 도덕교육의 정당성을 위협ㆍ부정하는 새로우면서도 매우 위험한 도전이다. 이에 이 논문 에서는 인간의 인지적ㆍ도덕적 향상에 도움을 주는 약물들의 실체와 효능에 대해 알아보고, 약리학적인 신경 향상이 수반하는 윤리적 문제점을 살펴본 후에, 도덕적 인격의 함양을 목표 로 하는 도덕교육이야말로 가장 효과적인 도덕적 향상의 방법임을 논증하였다.

With ongoing work to unravel the mysteries of our minds and bodies, coupled with the development of converging technologies, we are on the verge of human enhancement revolution. Proponents of moral enhancement by pharmacological neuroenhancement argue that moral education is not an effective method for solving moral problems facing us because it cannot catch up with the speed of scientific and technological development. Such an argument may be a real threat to moral education in schools that has traditionally been regarded as a useful method of moral self-improvement. Thus, I described the promising methods and effects of pharmacological neuroenhancement, enumerated typical ethical issues derived from the intervention of pharmacological neuroenhancement, and finally defended the value and legitimacy of moral education. I concluded that our true morality is a product of character and character can not be enhanced or introduced by pharmacological interventions from the outside. Our moral character has to be freely chosen by ourselves and cultivated by our sincere and time-consuming efforts.
