This study was designed to investigate the mediating effect of self-leadership in the relationship between the personality traits (BIG 5) of university students preparing for employment and the career preparation behaviors, and the survey was conducted after explaining the purpose of the survey to a total of 665 students preparing for employment among the 2nd, 3rd, and 1st grade students who are expected to graduate from M University and C University located in C city. The investigation period of this study was conducted for one week between September 07 and September 11, 2020, and the investigation was conducted by the investigator’s visiting in person. The results presented in this study are as follows. First, it can be seen that among the personality traits (BIG5) of university students preparing for employment, the sincerity, extroversion, and affinity have an important effect on the career preparation behaviors. Second, it can be seen that among the personality traits (Big 5) of university students preparing for employment, the sincerity, extroversion, and affinity have an important effect on the self-leadership. Third, it can be seen that the self-leadership of university students preparing for employment has an important effect on the career preparation behaviors. Fourth, in the results of verifying the mediating effect of self-leadership with personality traits (BIG 5) and career preparation behaviors, the self-leadership was found to partially mediate the effects of extroversion, affinity, integrity, nervousness, and openness by sub-factors of personality traits (BIG5) on job preparation behaviors. Overall, it was found that it had a significant effect on personality traits and career preparation behaviors of university students preparing for employment, suggesting that it is necessary to support the employment of students through the development of a coaching program that prepares careers according to personality traits when counseling for employment. In addition, self-leadership appears as an important mediating effect on personality traits and career preparation activities, and so it is judged that it is necessary to actively support students employment guidance through the development of programs that can improve students leadership.
