      The design and evaluation on Lightning protection of aircraft are great issues in modern aircraft industry. The potential risks are considered under four headings named, structural, fuel, electrical system and other hazards.
      The size and shape of lightning current can vary widely, for protection purpose, we need only consider the more severe condition like Military-Standard-1757 (Lightning Qualification Test Techniques for Aerospace vehicles and Hardware).
      In this paper, we have formed the lightning impulse voltage and current wave form based on the MIL-STD 1757, and tested the front-cowling and stabilizer composed with composite materials on Turboprop Trainer aircraft. Test results showed that composite materials protected by aluminum coating or copper mesh have damaged on the surface at which lightning contacts, but doesn't look like to be a fatal damage that induced the structural deformation or explosion of aircraft. On the contrary, unprotected pure composite material has critical damage like puncture through composite matrix.
