The Islamic-theocratic aspect of Iran's political system has plagued the country with violence and conflict domestically and internationally. However, its extent and political nature has often overshadowed and undermined democracy and human rights. The aim of this study is to investigate and analyse the factors which have influenced mainly the foreign policy and the economy of the Islamic Republic of Iran since the Islamic Revolution-1979.
Three major questions have been kept in focus throughout the research: (1) What is the basic framework of Iran's Islamic Government? (2) Why Has Iran constantly encountered troubles since the Islamic Revolution, especially in very recent years? (3) What has caused Iran to be politically and economically isolated?
This study is an examination of the analysis and critique found mainly in Iran as well as other parts of the world that seek a critical approach to the violence, and the conflict causations and its ensuing political implications. To illustrate Iran's political and economical policies in recent years, I will compare the latest administrations, President Mohammad Khatami 1997-2004, and incumbent President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
