The past main curriculums of medical education mainly depended on Subject Based Learning system(SBL). But SBL has been changed to a new education system in recently years, it's 'Problem Based Learning(PBL)'. In SBL system, teaching is considered as one of the significant activities in education. But, PBL is defined as a process of acquiring understands, knowledge, skills and attitudes in the context of unfamiliar situation.
The changes of medical eduction system needs new paradigm on the facility programming in medical schools. Particularly the facility guidelines for Objective Structured Clinical Examination(OSCE) should be proposed in a national scale. The purposes of this study is to set a design guideline for OSCE facility.
For the purposes, this study was carried out following process.
1) For theoretical consideration, this study inquired into the concept and the operation of PBL and OSCE. With this, the elements of facility design are extracted from the operation of OSCE.
2) For case study, this study selects examples of internal and external medical schools that already introduce OSCE itself. With this, It carried out comparative analysis about space features of OSCE facilities.
3) According to case study, Design guideline of this study reflects definite design elements that pay regard to analysis results ; evaluation method, plan & circulation, equipments and unit space.
The following is the The major conclusion of this study
1) There is a first procession of OSCE facility design that must precede to select a definite operation policy. This is a important condition for objectivity of examination.
2) There is a functional division of OSCE facility that decides a planning and a scale of each unit space; waiting room, station, evaluation room. Also, there is a circulation between each space that be decided by operation sequence.
3) Evaluation method decides on each equipment of unit space. And security methods of facility decides on standing equipment.
4) There is a scale of each unit that is not only influenced by operation policy but unit planning, circulation and station number.
