강신재 소설의 지역성과 젠더 인식 -『파도』를 중심으로 - = A Study on the Locality and Gender Perception of Kang Shin-jae’s Novels - Focusing on 󰡔Waves󰡕 -

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본고는 강신재의『파도』를 중심으로 강신재 소설에 중요하게 드러나는 지역 공간의 체험과 젠더 인식의 관련 양상을 고찰하는 데 목적이 있다. 소설에 드러난 자연 공간과 여성들의 삶은 식민지 시기의 개항도시의 지역성에 대한 풍부한 재현을 바탕으로 강신재 소설 고유의 젠더적 상상을 반영한다.
소설에서 재현된 ‘원진’은 함경도 청진 지역의 로컬리티를 풍부하게 드러내고 있다. 이를 뒷받침하는 것은 함경도 지역 여성들의 삶에 대한 세밀한 묘사이다. 작품에서 주인공인 영실은 아이면서도 어른의 시선을 지녔고 주변의 모든 사람들을 흥미롭게 바라보는 관찰자이자 뛰어난 이야기꾼이다.
영실을 중심으로 한 마을의 이야기 공동체는 자연공간의 상징을 통해 억압적 현실과 대비되는 소망의 세계를 펼쳐놓는다. 가부장제 현실에 시달리는 여성적 삶의 문제와 각자의 결핍된 사랑에 몸부림치는 인물들의 다양한 삶이 이야기꾼의 시선을 통해 펼쳐진다. 이렇듯 이야기 공동체의 꿈과 열망이 자연 공간에 배치됨으로써 작품의 로컬리티를 한층 풍부하게 한다고 할 수 있다. 이러한 논의들을 통해 전후 여성서사의 구체적 성취를 가늠하고 로컬리티와 젠더적 특성에 대한 연구들이 진전될 수 있기를 기대한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This paper is to examine the relationship between the experience of the regional space and gender perception that are significantly revealed in Kang Shin-jae’s novels, focusing on 『Waves』. The natural spaces and women’s lives revealed in the novels reflect the unique gender imagination of Kang Shin-jae’s novels based on the rich reproduction of the locality of the open port city during the colonial period.
The ‘Wonjin’ depicted in the novel show in abundance the locality of the Chongjin region of Hamgyeong Province. Supporting this is a detailed description of the lives of women in Hamgyeong-do. In this work, Young-sil, the main character, is a child, has an adult's gaze, and is an observer and an outstanding storyteller who looks at everyone around him interestingly.
The story community of the village, centered on Yeongsil, unfolds the world of hope that contrasts with the oppressive reality through the symbol of natural space. The problems of women’s life suffering from the patriarchal reality and the various lives of characters struggling with their lack of love are unfolded through the eyes of the storyteller. In this way, the dreams and aspirations of the story community are placed within the motif of natural space, which can be said to further enrich the locality of the work. Through these discussions, it is hoped that the specific achievements of postwar women’s growth narratives can be assessed and studies on locality and gender characteristics can be advanced.
