      In order to secure sustainable competitiveness of airlines, this study applied the cabin team leaders' empowering leadership and self-efficacy as antecedents of cabin crews' job engagement to identify the influence relationships between variables. The authors differentiated themselves from previous studies by constructing empowering leadership and job engagement into multiple dimensions. Based on the research results, useful practical implications were provided at the leadership level for effective human resource management in airlines. The airlines subject to the survey for sampling were two large domestic airlines. The subjects of the survey were cabin crew members belonging to the cabin team among employees of two large domestic airlines and were selected as a sample. The survey was conducted after researchers and investigators explained the purpose of the study to cabin crew members who wished to participate in the survey and obtained prior consent. As a result of the study, among the five sub-factors of empowering leadership, coaching, informing, and showing concerning were found to have a positive effect on self-efficacy. In particular, showing concerning was found to have the greatest influence on self-efficacy. On the other hand, leading by example and participative decision-making had an insignificant influence on self-efficacy. Self-efficacy was found to have a positive effect on all three sub-factors of job engagement: vigor, dedication, and absorption. These research results contributed to the literature on empowering leadership in the aviation service field and provided meaningful practical implications for effective human resource management in airlines.
