멘토교사 자기효능감과 학생 학업성취 간 관계: 학생 가정의 경제 사정에 따른 차이를 중심으로 = Relationship between mentor teacher's self-efficacy and student achievement: Focusing on the differences by the family's economic situation

Drawing on Longitudinal data on educationally marginalized children and youth collected by the Samsung Dream Scholarship Foundation, we examined how the impact of mentor teachers' self-efficacy on the academic achievement of students who participated in the mentoring program varies according to the students' family economic situation. For this purpose, a random effects model in panel data analysis was employed. Students were divided into two groups according to their families' economic status: students from basic subsistence families and students from general low-income families to test for differences between the groups. Results revealed that there were no significant differences in teacher characteristics such as mentor teacher self-efficacy and teacher social support between students from basic subsistence families and students from general low-income families. When we examined the interaction effect between mentor self-efficacy and low-income status, we found that mentor self-efficacy had a much stronger effect on the academic achievement of students from basic subsistence families than students from general low-income families. Based on our findings, we suggested policy alternatives briefly to promote school-based mentoring.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구는 저소득층 학생을 대상으로 운영되는 멘토링 프로그램 중심 장학사업의 효과성을 확인하고자 수행되었다. 특히 멘토교사의 자기효능감이 멘토링에 참여한 학생의 학업성취에 미치는 영향이 학생의 가정 경제 사정에 따라 어떻게 달라지는지 중점적으로 살펴보고자 하였다. 이를 위해 삼성꿈장학재단이 수집한「교육소외 아동청소년 종단연구」의 2018년부터 2020년까지 3년간 자료를 사용하여 분석을 수행하였다. 학생 가정의 경제 사정에 따라 기초생활수급 가정 학생과 일반 저소득 가정 학생으로 구분하여 집단 간 차이 검증을 실시하고, 패널분석의 임의효과 모형 추정량을 산출하였다. 분석 결과, 기초생활수급 가정 학생과 일반 저소득 가정 학생 간에 멘토교사의 자기효능감, 담임교사의 사회적 지지와 같은 교사 특성에서는 유의미한 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 멘토교사 자기효능감과 기초생활수급 가정 학생 간 상호작용 효과를 살펴본 결과, 멘토교사 자기효능감은 일반 저소득 가정 학생에 비해 기초생활수급 가정 학생의 학업성취에 훨씬 더 강력한 영향을 끼치는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 연구결과를 바탕으로 학교 기반 멘토링을 활성화하기 위한 정책대안을 간략하게 제시하였다.
