The purpose of this study was to develop the scale for self-directed learning (SDL) competency. The main survey was carried out for 780 elementary school students that data was analyzed by means of SPSS WIN 7.5. To extract of optimal items, factor analysis was used. The results of this study were as follows:
First, the reliability of the SDL scale was calculated by Cronbach's Alpha .877.
Second, the value of factor loading was showed more than 0.4.
Third, the SDL scale was selected by 23 items.
Finally, the factors fo the SDL scale were clustered by three components; study self-concept, study motivation, study strategy.
