동성왕대 (東城王代) 왜계(倭系) 세력의 동향 = The movements of the Japan-bom forces during the reign of King Dongseong

This paper presents an investigation into the movements of the Japan-born forces during the reign of King Dongseong. The study set out to examine the movements of the Japan-born forces by looking into Baekje`s relations with Japan during the reign of King Dongseong. Nihon Shoki, which reported the return of King Dongseong, sheds light onto the followings: he came to the throne after returning from Japan, being guarded by the soldiers of principality of Tsukusi. He was able to come to the throne because he has a foundation in the Geunbijo area, had the closest blood relations to succeed the throne, and was the right person to put an end to the disorder. Once he came to the throne, however, Baekje`s relations with Japan became estranged, which had something to do with his attempt to control its exchanges with China. One of the specific cases was the clash at Yirim: Kinouhihanosukune(紀生磐宿?), one of the Japan-born figures, attempted to establish an independent line in Baekje`s crisis right after its capital was moved from Imna to Woongjin only to have conflicts with Baekje. There were tunnel-entrance tombs for Japan-born figures in Danji-ri north of geum River. The group immigrants seem to have been buried there since the artifacts have the qualities of a family tomb. They could not enter the capital city because their status was not high enough. They located themselves at the traffic routes along Geum River and Yugu Stream and earned a living through trade. On the other hand, influential Japan-born figures entered the capital city of Woongjin when King Dongseong returned back to the country and played a part in the early regime. They were dispatched to the areas of Yeongsan River where the native force was powerful ad kings and queens, which had something to do with the construcuion fo keygoleshaped mounds in the Japan-bprm stu;e om the areas/ Tjeu were actove at the central circle of politics in the early days of king Dongseong`s rule but gradually pushed away, which corresponded with Baekje`s estranged relations with Japan.
