This study aims to explore the innovative potential as an eco-friendly and sustainable resource, focusing on the application of discarded shell materials to desk furniture design. As resource shortages and environmental problems around the world become increasingly serious, discarded shells are natural and renewable materials, whose main ingredient is calcium carbonate, which is high in strength, low in density, and has a unique physical and chemical structure, providing new possibilities for furniture design. According to figures from the United Nations Environmental Program Organization, about 2 billion tons of solid peppery are produced worldwide every year, of which the construction and furniture industries contribute about 30% of the total peppery. Waste shell is an abundant marine biological waste, with its main component, calcium carbonate content of more than 95%, and it has a unique physical and chemical structure and aesthetic value. However, millions of tons of waste shells produced annually by shellfish and aquaculture around the world are directly reclaimed or incinerated, resulting in waste of resources. Recent innovative advances in the field of material science are providing technical support for high added value of waste shelling. The purpose of this study is to explore the innovative application of waste shell materials to table furniture design, and to propose a sustainable design strategy based on the material-driven design (mdd) methodology. Based on this, the possibility is verified through experiments and user surveys. The specific goal is to analyze the physical and chemical characteristics of discarded waste shell and verify its application potential in furniture design to propose a furniture design concept with waste shell as its core by combining material-driven design (mdd) methodology and sustainable design strategy. Through user research and analysis of the kano model, the user's level of demand for discarded tables was clarified and the design strategy was optimized. Based on the quality function development method of qfd, a product quality collection was constructed, and user needs and design elements were systematically combined. Through the design, the design effectiveness of the waste shell table is displayed and the design is evaluated to explore the feasibility and market potential in practical applications. First of all, the theoretical basis of the study and the research gap were clarified by organizing related research literature such as application of waste shell materials, sustainable design, green furniture design, identification of user needs, and kano model and qfd model through literature synthesis. Next, in the experimental analysis section, a case analysis was conducted on the physical and chemical properties of discarded crude oil, and the application potential in furniture design was verified by including the pressure experiment and the flexural resistance experiment case analysis. As a result of the experiment, discarded shell materials have good mechanical performance, durability and plasticity, and have high efficiency in terms of sustainability. In the user survey part, in-depth interviews were conducted with different user groups using a semi-structured interview method to obtain detailed data on the use scenes, functional experiences, emotional needs, and perceptions of environmental protection materials of tableware furniture. Through the kano model, user needs are classified into categories and attributes, basic needs, expected needs, and excited needs are identified, and the ahp method is combined to quantify the weight of each demand and clarify the priority of the user's needs. The product quality house was constructed based on the qfd's quality function development method, and the system related the user's needs and design elements. The contribution of design elements to user needs was determined through several discussions and evaluations, and the comprehensive weight value of each design element was calculated by combining them with the importance weight of user needs. Finally, in the design proposal part, the design of table furniture was proposed by combining the modern design concept and craft technology with waste shell as the main material. In the design process, the product satisfies the functional requirements by sufficiently considering the user's needs and the weight of design elements, while exhibiting unique aesthetic value and environmental protection. The research results were in charge of the important findings of this study. First of all, as a result of analyzing the characteristics of waste shell materials, it was applicable to furniture design because of its high strength, low density, excellent durability, and unique physical and chemical structure. Second, it was found that user demand analysis showed that through the kano model and ahp method, users are highly interested in basic performances such as stability, capacity, and safety of table furniture, and strong interest in new design elements such as material environmental protection, customization, and cultural expression. Third, the qfd model is related to the user's needs and design elements, and determines the comprehensive weight value of design elements. As a result, it was found that the weight of design elements such as safety assurance, material aesthetics, and structural performance was relatively high, and it plays an important role in meeting user needs and realizing product goals. Finally, design evaluation was conducted through design proposal and rendering. The feasibility and market potential of waste shell tables in practical applications were verified. Through systematic theoretical analysis, data research, and case study, this study proved the possibility and innovation of waste shell in desk furniture design. The results of the study not only provided the scientific basis for applying waste shell material to furniture design, but also provided new thinking and methods for promoting green design and sustainable development. Through the combination of material-driven design (mdd) methodology, sustainable design strategy and kano model, and qfd method, this study matched the characteristics of discarded shell material with the user's needs, and presented specific design strategies and practice methods. Future research is expected to further optimize the performance of discarded shell material, explore more efficient processing technology, and realize true environmental effects and commercial value through in-depth evaluation of environmental impact in the entire life cycle.
