This study was investigated on the effects of scavenger treatment for low formaldehyde release from durable press finished cotton fabrics using saturation pad method. And possibility of foam application in durable press cotton fabrics was investigated.
Cotton cellulosic fabric was crosslinked with DMDHEU in the presence of magnesium chloride as a catalyst and polyhdroxy alcohols as a formaldehyde scavenger.
Optimum concentration of formaldehyde scavengers on the durable press finished cotton fabrics were about 4%.
Most favourable pH of the pad solution and wash water were about 5.
The glycols and glycerol were the most effective formaldehyde scavenger. The glycol class of polyhydroxy alcohol is water soluble and is compatible and effective with crosslinking agent.
