옛글 수업을 어떻게 할까 = How do We Give Korean Classical Literature Classes?

국문 초록 (Abstract)

고전 수업의 현실은 학습목표와 거리가 멀게 진행될 가능성이 많다. 선인들의 정서나 문화를 이해하는 것을 고전 수업의 주요 목표로 제시하고 있지만 현실적으로는 그렇지 못한 것이다. 고전의 내용을 원문으로 수록하거나 한자어 위주로 번역한 것을 교과서에 실을 경우, 내용을 현대어로 풀이하는 데 대부분의 시간을 투자할 수밖에 없기 때문이다. 그래서 학습목표에 해당하는 내용은 교사가 정리해서 암기하도록 하는 방식을 취한다. 이것은 학생들의 언어 능력 신장 측면에서 본다면 별로 교육적 효과가 없다고 봐야 할 것이다. 그 결과 학생들은 고전을 고리타분하고, 공부할 거리가 많고, 무엇보다 어려운 것으로 인식하는 경우가 많다. 이런 문제점을 해소하려면 학생들의 정서에 부합하도록 현대어로 옮긴 것을 교과서에 실어야하고, 다양한 제재와 주제를 담은 글을 제시해야 한다. 학생들이 옛글에 친숙하게 다가갈 수 있도록 해야 학습 목표에 부합하는 다양한 학습활동을 전개할 수 있을 것이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

In actually, Korean classical literature classes can be far removed from their purposes. It is suggested as a main object to understand our predecessors' feeling and culture, but actually we have difficulty in achieving the purpose of study. In the case the original of the classics or its Sino-Korean-word-oriented translation is put into the textbook, most of the classes are required to be centered on interpreting the passage of the original or translation by using present-day Korean. So, the teacher in question summarizes additionally the related parts to the purpose and has his or her students memorize them. This is not an efficient method of teaching from an aspect of the development of students' linguistic competence. As a result, many of students tend to treat classis as more threadbare, having a lot of things to do, and difficult than any other. In order to solve this problem, it is required to put both the present-day Korean translation, which corresponds to those students' feeling, into the textbook and to provide student with various materials and topics of texts in class. To let students familiar to Korean classical language is prerequisite for the development of various activities suitable to attain the purpose of study.
