      From considerations of Hamlet a drama of Shakespeare, we tried to suggest a method of study for the design of the stage costume and made stages costume really put on by actors of "e 6th periodical performance of Hamlet"y a dramatic company, Gek-Suk-Kwa-Mu-Dae played at Sungsan Art Hall located at Changwon, Korea. from Nov.30 to Dec. 1,2002.
      Abstracts of our study are described as follows.
      Firstly, Due to works of Shakespeare including Hamlet are able to be interpreted with various viewpoints and varieties agreeably to their stage intensions, the drama can be performed by actors with new looks of dissimilar stage costume.
      Secondly, For the expression of classical image shown at the historical background of the original work suitably to their sensitivity of modern persons, fitting to the stage intensions of Hamlet, classical silhouette and modern subject matters were introduced to our stage costume and harmonized with one another.
      Third, As colors used in of our works, we employed some colors for the mourning dress of Hamlet indicated in the original work giving symbolic meanings for their characters and psychological description of the cast with the exception of black color.
      Fourth, As subject matters employed in the drama, some subject matters showing courtesy and generosity and other thin subject matters were contrasted with one another. Consequently, we expressed characters of various persons and the inward changes of an identical person. Additionally, we also expressed a splendor of the times commonly enjoyed at the Royal palace using both the metallic blade and the figured one.
      As characteristics of dramas by Shakespeare, there can be a broad space involved in imaginations of actors, producers and stage artist, because only concrete dialogues and actions of the casts are exhibited without explanations of their backgrounds, or without their subject finger marks as an indication about their costumes, or gesture. From symbols not stated clearly in dresses, stage costume designers symbolizing their special atmosphere can explain the contents of the story with the stage costume and they can be in charge of the roles leading the atmosphere of the dramas consequently they should participate in all dramas with their own line of viewpoints.
