세계화의 하인들: 마낄라도라 산업과 여성 = Servants of Globalization: Maquiladoras and Women

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study analyzes the problems of women's labor around Mexico' s maquiladora industry. The Purpose of this article narrowly analyzes the structural problems of Mexico 's society and economy in terms of women and broadly reveals the reality of violence in globalization. For this purpose, this paper considers how violence of globalization uses and misrepresents the female body in the background of the maquiladora industry, using the globalization theory of Parreñas.
Third world women workers in the maquiladora industry experience not only the labor force but also the multi layered alienation phenomenon from the standpoint of gender, race, and class in connection with sexual oppression and exploitation as well as labor. Due to low wages, sexual violence, intensive working conditions and poor working conditions, Mexican women often come to die and sometimes try to prostitute young girls because of the difficult economic environment in Mexico. Nonetheless, these responsibilities are attributed to the "death by culture logic" or to the cultural traditions of Mexico and ultimately to women's own responsibility.
Based on the consciousness of this problem, this study sheds light on the effects of globalization on the female body in relation to the maquiladora industry and the problems of women 's labor and the gender - related violence, thus emphasizing that maquiladoras industry is the servant of globalization.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

이 연구의 목적은 멕시코의 마낄라도라 산업을 둘러싼 여성노동의 문제점을 분석함으로써 좁게는 멕시코의 사회, 경제의 구조적 문제를 여성의 측면에서 분석하고, 넓게는 세계화의 폭력의 실태를 드러내기 위한 것이다. 이러한 목적을 위해 이 논문은 버틀러의 신체의 개념과 파레냐스의 세계화 이론을 원용하여 세계화의 폭력이 마낄라도라 산업을 배경으로 여성의 몸을 얼마나 비참하고 비열하게 활용하고 표현하고 있는지를 고찰한다.
마낄라도라 산업은 탈영토성을 배경으로 노동과 자본에 따라 성장하면서 인종화, 계급화, 젠더화의 문제를 보편화시켜 세계를 중심부와 주변부, 제1세계와 제3세계로 극명하게 분리시키고 있다. 더군다나 마낄라도라 산업과 관련하여 제3세계 여성노동자들을 노동력 측면에서 뿐만 아니라 성적 억압 및 착취와 연관되어 성, 인종, 계급의 관점에서 중층적 소외 현상을 경험한다. 마낄라도라 산업의 저임금, 성폭력, 집약적 노동조건 및 열악한 노동환경은 멕시코와 같은 제3세계 여성들을 때로는 죽음에 이르게 할뿐 아니라, 어려운 경제적 환경으로 인해 어린 소녀들은 성매매 현장으로 내몰리기도 한다. 그럼에도 이 책임은 ‘죽음에 이르는 문화논리’나 멕시코의 문화적 전통에 기댐으로써 여성들 스스로의 책임으로 돌려져 여성들의 몸은 진정 세계화의 하인임을 증명한다.
이런 문제의식에 기반하여 본 연구는 세계화가 여성의 몸에 미치는 영향을 마낄라도라 산업과 연관하여 여성노동에 내재된 문제점과 그에 따른 젠더 폭력의 양상을 분석해봄으로써 진정 마낄라도라 산업과 여성이 세계화의 하인이며, 피해자임을 밝히는데 주안점을 둔다.
