구어 코퍼스에 기반한 현대중국어 ‘的话’ 구문의 다기능성 분석 ― 정보구조 및 언어유형학적 각도에서

This study examines the usage patterns of the Modern Chinese construction “Dehua(的话)” and investigates its functions and interrelations among them. By moving beyond the excessively theoretical or isolated analyses of previous studies, it aims to provide a comprehensive and integrative perspective on the multifunctionality of “Dehua” The study demonstrates that the construction exhibits distinct functions depending on whether it is used with a conjunction or independently under different syntactic conditions, while simultaneously confirming that these functions exist on a closely connected continuum. When appearing in the subordinate clause of a complex sentence, “Dehua” introduces conditions for the inference in the main clause. Depending on the conjunction, it forms conditional clauses with specific meanings such as hypothetical, necessary, concessive, or inferential causes. Additionally, when combined with nominal structures, it can introduce a topic that serves as the subject of the following comment. The linguistic and logical relationships between hypothesis and condition, as well as the informational structural similarity between conditional clauses and topic, constitute the underlying mechanisms for the multifunctionality of “Dehua”. The interrelation of these functions is further substantiated by evidence from linguistic typology.
