嶺東地域 降雪特性에 關한 硏究 = The Characteristics of the Snowfall in Yeongdong Region

The purposes of this paper are to consider the seasonal and spatial charcteristics of the snowfall distribution in Yeongdong region, and to study synoptically its causes. It is considered on the basis of meteorological data of Monthly Weather Reports and weather Charts from 1967 to 1977.
The results obtained are summarized as follows:
1. The Yeongdong is more in snow cover amounts and the number of days with snow cover than the other regions of South Korea.
2. Seasonally, snow cover in Yeongdong have much from the late winter to the early spring, while have much during midwinter in the other regions.
3. In the distribution of snowfalls, the Yeongdong is less in the number of total snow days but more in the number of heavy snowfall days than the other regions, therefore, intensifies more in the intensity of snowfalls than the other regions.
4. Heavy snowfalls in the Yeongdong are caused by the northeast airstreams.
5. The cause of the seasonal delay on heavy snowfalls in Yeongdong is considered as the northeasterly condition is formed easily from February to March when the influence of Siberian H is reduced.
