      Purpose: The purpose of this study is to examine the effectiveness and
      safety of the fermented Saccharina Japonica (Phaeophyta) food with regard
      to the cognitive function.
      Method: Healthy adult volunteers were recruited and 72 people participated
      in this study. Participants were randomly allocated into the experimental
      group or the control group, and ingested test food (fermented kelp extract)
      or placebo food for 4 weeks, respectively. Group allocation was kept
      undisclosed until the end of the study. Korean Wechsler Adult Intelligence
      Scale, operation-word span test, and Raven test-based quantitative EEG
      test were performed.
      Result: No difference was observed between the experimental group and
      the control group in all variables by independent sample t-test. When
      pre-post comparison was performed in each group by paired-sample t-test,
      only the experimental group showed significant difference in the correct
      answer percentage of memory, correct answer percentage, concentration and
      left & right brain activity of space perception in the Raven test-based
      quantitative EEG test. No adverse effect was reported.
      Conclusion: This study suggests that fermented Saccharina Japonica
      (Phaeophyta) may be developed as a functional food for the improvement
      of cognitive function.

      배경 및 목적: 다시마가 유용한 해양생물자원으로서 개발되어 왔으나 유산균
      발효 다시마 식품이 인지기능에 미치는 효과는 연구되지 않았다. 본 연구는
      다시마 발효 추출물 시험식품이 인지기능에 미치는 효능과 안전성을 탐색하는
      연구로서 수행되었다.
      방법: 무작위배정 이중눈가림 위식품 평행시험 설계를 이용해 Beck 우울증 척도
      설문지상 16점 미만이고 병력확인상 질환이 없는 건강한 성인 72명(연령 32±17세,
      평균±표준편차)이 연구에 참여했다. 연구참여자는 1:1의 배정비율로 시험식품 처치
      군과 위식품 대조군에 배정되었다. 복용 기간은 4주였고 복용기간 전후에 인지기
      능검사로서 성인지능(K-WAIS), 조작단어폭과제, Raven 검사 기반 정량화뇌파 검
      사 등을 실시했다.
      결과: 시험식품 처치군과 대조군 사이에 성인지능, 조작단어폭과제, Raven 검사
      기반 정량화 뇌파검사 등에서는 유의한 차이가 보이지 않았다. 각 군에서의 복용
      기간 전후 비교상 성인지능, 조작단어폭과제 검사에서는 유의한 차이가 보이지
      않았으나, 처치군은 기억력상 정답률, 공간지각력상 정답률, 집중력, 좌뇌활성상승과 우뇌활성저하 등에서 유의한 차이를 보였다(p<0.05). 안전성 관찰항목상 유
