1차 산업혁명과 박람회(1798-1900) = First Industrial Revolution and Expositions(1798-1900)

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between the First Industrial Revolution and the Exposition in terms of humanities. Because the fair began much earlier than the Industrial Revolution, but the World Expo, including science and technology, began at the London World’s Fair in 1851. In view of this, I think that some of the products of the Industrial Revolution were exhibited at the World Exposition, and that many countries that were stimulated by this phenomenon came to the forefront in science and technology development, so that a huge wave of industrial revolution appeared and the modernization of the world took place. Therefore, I think that the exhibition has played a role of informing the status of the nation while faithfully fulfilling the role of the window to look at the achievements of the industrial revolution.
In this paper, the origin of the fair, the French Industry Fair (1798-1849), and the World Expo (1851-1900) during the 19th century of technology and civilization development were studied.

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구가 추구하는 목적은 인문학적 관점에서 1차 산업혁명과 박람회는 어떤 관계가 있는가를 고찰하는데 있다. 왜냐하면 박람회는 산업혁명보다 훨씬 일찍 시작되었지만, 과학과 기술을 포함한 세계박람회(World Expositions)는 1851 년 런던 세계박람회부터 시작하기 때문이다. 필자는 이런 점을 감안하여 산업혁명의 일부 결과물들이 세계박람회에 출품되고 이에 자극을 받은 여러 국가들이앞다투어 과학 및 기술개발에 뛰어듦으로써 산업혁명의 거대한 파도가 나타나고 세계 근대화가 이루어졌다고 생각한다. 그렇기 때문에 박람회는 산업혁명의성과를 들여다 볼 수 있는 창문의 역할을 충실히 함과 동시에 국가의 위상을알리는 역할을 톡톡히 해냈다고 본다. 이 논문에서는 박람회의 기원과 프랑스산업박람회(1798-1849) 그리고 19세기 기술․문명 개발시기의 세계박람회(1851-1900)를 대상으로 연구를 진행하였다.
