Our daily Life E-City based on digital network technology can be defined as the sharing arena for people to share their knowledge and experiences, services and mutual interests through internet not in abstract and conceptual city but in the same community. With the benefits of the data service of hardware/software platform, GIS(Geographic Information System), citizens can get service and information through having interaction with public administration system by receiving informations of traffic, parking, weather, the general information on a city. This kind of manifestation of digital city is focused on social safety and welfare, environment, life quality of citizens, and is realized by public display solution which is merged with digital network on based IT technology. According to the above, as a researcher, I have studied on DID(Digital Information Display) that was based on Cloud Computing, which permeated into our lives, providing service and various contents without space limit wherever you are. Therefore I had a notice on its role of leading the change of daily life, and had a research on manager interface DID solution that has been operated in domestic at present. This is a new interface and communication that offers high quality contents to the last users through Multi Device One Service. Accordingly, through the analysis on visual-design factors of GUI in DID, I had the purpose of suggesting MI(Management Interface) Design Style Guideline for the effective management enhancement and convenient management.
At first, on chapter 2, I studied:
① The changes of city circumstance
② Sector of Public Display Utilization
③ DID and Interface
On next chapter 3, I had a comparative analysis of the element of MI of five DID relevant companies, and then established the relations between DID management structure and Users, and finally drew the common management points. I drew Icon as the main visual delivery factor after analyzing MI visual design factor which had a center on common management points, and classified it with symbol-style, text-style and mixed-style. Since Icon should be considered on recognition aspect in order to deliver an exact visual delivery, I’ve studied on the characteristics of MI Icon and recognition factor, semiotic factors. Consequently, improper MI has been drawn onto the necessity of Icon standardization for exact delivery aspect of meanings with the viewpoint of visual delivery.
Therefore on chapter 4, I proceeded with step-by step evaluation experiment (the first/ the second) to suggest identification considered Icon by experiment research. Primarily I had a research on Icon preference through the first experiment. The purpose was to draw preferred icon for understanding, recognition and judgment of Icon. To carry out research on a preference of icon, I selected Icons that were connected with DID management menu items, that were existing DID Icon, Windows Icon, Pictograms Icon, Actual and three-dimensional Icon, flat/black Icon, “None”, and then made people select the most preferred Icon among them. Additionally, I had an interview with the method of doing a check list to do research the suitability of managing Icon on both DID solution developers and managers. As a result, even though most of them showed improper consequence, there were preferences on menu icon-Windows style, Action button icon-Pictogram style, and menu icon of contents managing -windows style. I made progressed in the second experiment with the foundation of the result of preference research.
In the sense of carrying out clear delivery, Identification capability is the most important thing for the ultimate meaning of Icons. Thus, I had an evaluated-experiment and analyzed group differences following the research method of International Standardization Organization (ISO 9186-1, ISO 9186-2) for both clearance of MI Icon having concept of identification and User's clear understanding on meaning. The selected Icons of analyzed target were ⓐ Device Management Icon, ⓑ Contents Management Icon, ⓒ Monitoring Icon, ⓓ Report Icon. The design for experiment of evaluation was made of HTML documents, PHP programming and MySQL management system. The experiment of Judgment on the understanding, recognition of Icons was evaluated with the on-line method according to ISO International Standard(ISO 9186-1, ISO 9186-2) The analysis on the result validated hypothesis through frequency analysis and analysis of variance, ANOVA, having taken advantage of statistics program (Sigma Plot 11.0 version) to analyze tendency among groups and frequency analysis.
On chapter 5, through existing MI design style analysis based on the outcome of both demonstration research and experimental one, I suggested MI guideline of design style with applicable style of layout, menu structure, color, typographic, button, icon, tap, pop-up to enhance manager’s using convenience and the efficiency of UI design development. That will lead to related lifting up efficiency on works and improvement on efficiency of maintenance coming from the reduction of managing user’s learning time and using convenience, improvement of approach possibility, error minimizing, etc, and to shortening the time of design and total development period on GUI development. Moreover it will helpful for the domestic Small and Medium Sized Companies in global market. The Digital Network can be called a starting point of changing the form of human life, and save the resource, and reduce the cost of expense with the Info digitalization, as well as enhance management circumstance that has the work process characteristic suitable to new smart surroundings.
