If the method of disposing of the body after a funeral is largely classified, it is divided into cremation and burial of the body. Currently, cremation is mainly selected as a method of disposing of bodies in Korea. After cremation, the remains are generally enshrined in the form of bone powder, such as Bongandang It is a Korean expression for 'Osuary'.
or natural field, but the number of bereaved families who choose scattering ashes of loved ones has recently increased.
However, unlike the burial of the deceased in Bongandang or natural fields, most case of scattering ashes after cremation cannot specify the place where the deceased was enshrined. For this reason, the bereaved family who chose the rite of scattering ashes may have difficulty following the process of mourning around the place where the ashes of the loved ones was scattered after the funeral.
In this study, I reviewed the current status of scattering ashes conducted in Korea, and investigated the perception and attitude of the bereaved family who chose the rite of scattering ashes from the perspective of mourning tasks of the bereaved family. As a result of the investigation, it is confirmed that the bereaved families who chose the scattering ashes of loved ones are negatively affected by the process of mourning because they cannot find a place or symbol to reminiscent the deceased.
In this study, in order to solve this problem, I suggest to improve the rite of scattering ashes to minimize the negative impact during the mourning process of the bereaved family who chose scattering ashes as a method of treating bone ashes after cremation.
As an improvement measure, I suggested linking the place where the scattering ashes of loved ones was performed to a space to mourn and commemorate the deceased, and having a period of grieving for a certain period of time without scattering bone ashes of loved ones immediately after cremation. In addition, when open the tomb of the ancestors of more than two generations. I propose a plan to implement the Maean 'Maean' is the name of a rite held in Korea when the ancestral tablets of ancestors were buried in the ground.
ritual while scattering ashes of the ancestors after cremation.
Korea's funeral culture is being simplified, and the period of funeral is being shortened. The fact that families hold funerals while conducting ceremonial activities based on meaning in a substantial manner does not mean an efficient procedure to dispose of the deceased's body only quickly and hygienically. Through the funeral ceremony, we should treat the deceased's body with dignity until the last minute, and give the bereaved family help to complete the mourning task with consolation.
Due to family structure and socio-cultural changes, rite of scattering ashes of loved ones will increase further. The bereaved families who chose the rite of scattering ashes must leave the bone ashes of the loved ones as soon as the funeral is over.
I have examined the current status of the scattering bone ashes from the perspective of mourning for the bereaved family and attempted to suggest ways to improve the scattering bone ashes , focusing on ritual alternatives. The purpose and meaning of this study is to sublimate the scattering ashes of loved ones after cremation as a process of mourning, not just a action of scattering bones, by supplementing legal standards and facilities related to the scattering bones after cremation.
