As a light source of high bit rate light transmission systems, the multi quantum well distributed feelback laser diodes operating at 1.55 ㎛ are designed, fabricated and characterized. Device parameters including a grating coupling coefficient and wavelength detuning are optimized to improve the laser performance. The measured performances show that these lasers are very useful for Gbit/s capable lightware transmission systems.
