중학 논술의 평가 기준 연구 -개정 7차 국어과 교육과정을 중심으로- = A Study on Assessment Standard of Essay Writing in Middle School -Focusing on Korean subject of the 7th amended curriculum-

The purpose of this study is first, to define the concept of essay writing by figuring out its distinguished feature, second, to set up the assessment standard for essay writing of middle school by reviewing previous studies on writing tests and writing system included in Korean subject of the 7th amended curriculum, and third, to review and analyze the timeliness of the standard and educational values. The findings are summarized as follows: First, an essay class in middle school(the 7th grade to 9th grade) is considered very important in developing the ability to write the essay and students needs to concentrate on reading a variety of books and cultivating themselves and, based on them, to develop ability to supportive ideas. To do so, speaking class especially for discussion or debate should be provided at the same time. Based on this distinguished feature, essay writing is defined as ``the ability to describe the specific opinion with rational organization after finding out the question and seeking after its solution based on the understanding of the given passage``. Second, assessment standard for essay writing in middle school is established by reviewing previous studies on writing tests and writing system included in Korean subject of the 7th amended curriculum. Suggested assessment standard is an analytical assessment tool by adapting 5 point scale for easy use, and we suggest the assessment standard by breaking it into assessment criteria, assessment factor, and assessment standard. Also, assessment standard was based on the achievement standard of writing section for the 7th grade to 9th grade included in Korean subject of the 7th amended curriculum. Third, educational values were reviewed and analyzed, and its features were suggested. The level of middle school students were taken into account based on the achievement standard of writing section for the 7th grade to 9th grade included in Korean subject of the 7th amended curriculum. For example, criteria for expression should abandon the measurement of specific knowledge about Korean and criteria for development of contents should consider the expected readers and ability to collect the supportive ideas and to make some quotations. Also, criteria for expression and development of content should includes ``cultural habit``, which is not included in the existing assessment standard. This may be because the 7th amended curriculum was influenced by the social linguistics stating that the real language should be analyzed in the social context to figure out the communication ability of human beings, and background of times in which society moves to multi cultural one. It is expected that the assessment standard serves as more proper model to the level of middle school students and the education field in social and linguistic aspects, and in terms of timeliness as multi cultural society compared with the existing standard suggested by others. The limit of this study was not to include the professionals of essay writing for middle school and to review the assessment on overall writing achievement due to lack of the related sentences for essay writing when preparing criteria for the assessment while the writing system in Korean subject of the 7th amended curriculum for the 7th to 9th grade was reviewed.
