The goal of this study was to analyse ‘self-talk’ and hypothesis formulation by counselors using experienced and novice cyber counselors. To perform this study, ten (10) experienced and ten (10) novice counselors interviewed three (3) counselees by way of the ‘chatting’ medium. After the interviews the counselors described the ‘self-talk’ and formed their hypotheses and were, in turn, rated. Collected data were analysed by t-test.
The results of the study were as follows: First: there was no significant difference in ‘self-talk’ among the counselors according to experience, (considering the total number and mean score of the ‘self-talk’) but the experienced cyber counselors used qualitatively superior ‘self-talk’ compared to the novices.
Second: the experienced cyber counselors made qualitatively superior hypotheses. There were statistical differences in all low realms of hypothesis formulation.
