This study aims to explore the public meaning of artistic activities and their potential to promote social solidarity in an era of creative aging, as well as to derive implications for arts education. It explores the concept of creative aging, and reconceptualizes the public meaning of artistic activities through several key concepts from Marcel Mauss’s The Gift. Ultimately, based on the public meaning implying the interaction and mutual influence between individuals and communities, the study articulates the significance of artistic activities that enable social solidarity in an era of creative aging and the implications for arts education. This study will contribute to a broader discourse on artistic activities and the role of arts education in societies facing rapid demographic aging.
