웹툰 영상화와 문학의 이론적 전환 : 서사의 경계와 문학적 재정의 = Webtoon Adaptation and the Theoretical Turn in Literature : The Boundaries of Narrative and the Literary Redefinition

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 논문은 웹툰의 영상화 현상을 문학의 분석 대상으로 설정하고, 이를 통해문학의 이론적 전환 가능성을 모색하였다. 웹툰의 영상화는 단순한 2차 창작이나원작 재현 수준을 넘어, 플롯 구조, 감정 리듬, 캐릭터 정체성, 시청 리듬 등을전면적으로 재구성하는 창조적 재매개의 과정이다. 이 과정에서 문자 중심의 전통적 문학 이론이 포착하지 못했던 멀티모달 서사, 정동 기반 감정 구조, 플랫폼중심 서사 전략 등을 포함하는 복합적 서사 형식이 등장한다.
본 연구는 웹툰과 그 영상물 간의 내러티브 변형 양상을 실증적으로 분석하고, 정동이론, 트랜스미디어 서사론, 플랫폼 내러톨로지 등과의 이론적 접속을 통해 문학이 감정, 감각, 시청자 반응, 알고리즘 등 비문자적 요소를 포괄하는 방향으로 분석 범주를 확장할 수 있음을 제안하였다. 이를 통해 문학의 분석 대상과방법론의 재정립 가능성을 구조적으로 제시하고자 하였다.
결과적으로, 본 논문은 웹툰 영상화를 통해 문학이 ‘문자 기반 학문’에서 ‘서사기반 인문학’을 거쳐 ‘감정 ‧ 플랫폼 기반 통합 인문학’으로의 이행 가능성을 확보할 수 있음을 주장한다.

This study sets the phenomenon of webtoon adaptations into visual media as an object of literary analysis and explores the theoretical transformation potential of literature through this lens. The adaptation of webtoons into visual formats goes beyond simple secondary creation or faithful reproduction of the original.
It involves a creative process of remediation that reconstructs plot structure, emotional rhythms, character identities, and viewing patterns. In doing so, it gives rise to a complex narrative form encompassing multimodal storytelling, affect- driven emotional structures, and platform-centered narrative strategies—elements that traditional text-based literary theories often fail to capture.
This research empirically analyzes the narrative transformations between webtoons and their screen adaptations. It engages with affect theory, transmedia storytelling, and platform narratology to suggest that literature can expand its analytical framework to include non-textual elements such as emotion, sensation, audience response, and algorithmic logic. Through this, the study structurally proposes a redefinition of literary subjects and methodologies.
Ultimately, the paper argues that through the case of webtoon adaptation, literature can transition from a “text-based discipline” to a “narrative-centered humanities,” and further into an “integrated humanities based on affect and platform logic.”
