This study aims to provide basic materials for developing various and effective adapted physical education program that enables hearing-impaired people to improve their physical·mental health and to satisfy sound leisure by understanding the present state of adapted physical education program for hearing - impaired people. For this study, I interviewed hearing-impaired people, their parents and social workers in charge of the program and compared and analyzed adapted physical education programs of 5 community welfare centers for hearing-impaired people all over the country so that I can find out what they demand with regard to adapted physical education. Through the interview and study, I can draw the result like this.
First, 5 community welfare centers for hearing-impaired people do not implement adapted physical education program for their cure and rehabilitation while most community welfare centers implement general physical program for hearing-impaired adults which means adults mainly use community welfare centers for hearing-impaired people.
Second, according to interview with hearing-impaired people, their parents and social workers in charge of the program, most hearing-impaired people have not participated in adapted physical education activities but they want to participate in the physical education activities that are similar to their peers. Parents of hearing - impaired people wanted their children to participate in physical education activities if the opportunities of more various physical activity programs are given. The social workers in charge of the program admit positive effect of adapted physical program though adapted physical program is difficult to be vitalized because most hearing -impaired children show strong interest in hearing ability and verbal re mediation.
I expect that detailed ways to vitalize adapted physical education program for hearing-impaired people can be sought and various programs which enable both adults and children with hearing impair to easily use effective physical activities can be found on the basis of this study.
