This paper was mainly conducted by the reflection of social introspection through the specificity and performativity of materials in contemporary art. In modern art, people abandoned their obsession with beauty and sought to combine art and social phenomena. So he expresses his thoughts in a more thought-potential way. Some artists use a variety of materials to express their ideas in their works with the unique properties of matter. This study mainly focuses on how to express ideas through materials of different properties in works of art. Today, all-around research is conducted through artists who are proficient in artistic ideas using material specificities. In addition, social reflection is presented through representations of material symbols and performance shown in researchers' works.
The paper studies the works of three artists: Bill Viola, 1951–, Olafur Elíason, 1967–, and Francis Alÿs, 1959–. Bill Viola uses a medium called video to deal with the most fundamental problems of man, life, death, and existence, and tries to borrow materials from nature to find answers. From the 1970s, he mainly created Japanese Zen Buddhism, which was a period of various religions and Taoist philosophy, including Westerners. In this social atmosphere, he became interested in Eastern religions, which sought harmony between nature and man, and reflected it in his work. He explored the existence of humans in nature in art, and used water, fire, air, and soil, which are the main materials of nature. Olafur Elíason, an Icelandic Danish writer, constantly explores the relationship between nature, science and humans by combining various elements of natural phenomena with mechanical devices. Elements such as water, air, light, ice, and soil were brought to the exhibition space to recreate natural phenomena and landscapes. Iceland's natural environment, including its unique weather and terrain, is a source of inspiration and an important factor in completing the work. In particular, he embodied natural phenomena using natural, dematerialization, fluid properties, and expressed them as climatic phenomena such as rain fog, rainbows and sun. In addition, Chapter 3 also studies the combination of materiality and performance, methods of expression, and symbolic meaning in Francis Alÿs. The performance in Alÿs' work is that he has a close-range observation of daily life and a sensitivity to social problems. His work continued to have a detailed record of Mexico, and he maintains a record as objective as possible. In the work, the artist is creating works to enhance public awareness and political power awareness in a complex and diversified environment.
In order to express the unique ideas of the work, the researcher's work contains materials with specificity and creates a combination of human beings, religion, society, and nature. It explores how the specificity of matter expresses the ideas contained in the work. In this world of materials, there are many materials with specificity, and there are many genres and expressions of modern art, and combining materials with specificity requires a lot of research. Researchers also fuse performing art creation concepts in the art creation process. The center of gravity of art creation was shifted to social phenomena, and the emphasis on mental transmission was greater than the material itself, the medium of the work. In addition, it is hoped that more people will pay attention to the social reflection and natural harmony of modern society through research on the art creation of "material specificity and performativity."
