홍천강 지류별 마을제의 존재양상 = 성산천, 풍천천, 성동천, 굴지천을 중심으로

국문 초록 (Abstract)

개울이 모여 내를 이루고, 내가 모여 강을 이루듯이, 홍천강도 홍천군을 가로지르는 30여 개의 지류들이 모여서 강을 이루고 있다. 그리고 홍천강을 이루는 여러 지류 주변에는 크고 작은 마을들이 형성되어 있다. 이와 같이 지류 곳곳에 마을이 형성되면서 마을 구성원들은 마을의 안녕을 위한 제의를 지내는데, 제의는 마을에 따라 진행절차, 제의 명칭, 제의 장소, 신의 이름, 제물 등 여러 면에서 차이가 있다.
본 연구에서는 홍천강의 30여 곳 지류 중, 성산천, 풍천천, 성동천, 굴지천 등 4곳의 지류를 중심으로 마을제의를 살폈다. 성산천 주변 마을에서는 산신제와 서낭제가 중심을 이뤘고, 풍천천 주변 마을에서는 산신제, 서낭제, 거리제 등을 지냈지만 서낭제와 거리제가 중심이 되어 진행되었다. 성동천 주변 마을에서는 산신제, 서낭제, 거리제 중 산신제와 거리제가 중심이지만, 굴지천 주변 마을에서는 산신제가 활발하지 않다.
풍천천, 성동천, 굴지천 등의 여러 마을에서는 거리제를 지낼 때 제물로 개를 쓰고 있다. 그동안 강원지역 거리제에 대해 정리한 보고서의 내용은 단편적이기 때문에 그 형편을 자세히 알 수 없으나, 강원도 지역에서 거리제가 치러지는 경우는 흔하지 않다. 뿐만 아니라 거리제에서 개를 제물로 쓰는 사례는 더욱 그러하다. 전국적으로 살펴도 제의에서 개를 쓰는 사례를 찾기란 쉽지 않다.
이처럼 마을에서 거리제를 지내고, 제물로 개를 쓰는 일이 풍천천, 성동천, 굴지천 등 세 지류의 마을에서만 제한된 것인지, 아니면 나머지 30여 곳의 홍천강 지류에서도 흔한 것인지 더 살펴야 할 일이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Just as streams come together to make larger streams and these come together to form rivers, Hongchon River, too, is formed by thirty or so small and large tributary. Around these tributary are villages of various sizes. As villages became established, the villagers had rituals praying for the well-being of the village. These rituals vary greatly in terms of procedures, names, venues, name of Gods used and offerings.
This paper reviews village rituals with a focus on Seongsancheon, Pungcheoncheon, Seongdongcheon and Guljicheon out of the thirty or so tributary that form Hongcheon River. Around Seongsanchon, the villageshold Sansinje(religious service for the mountain god) and Seonangje(rites for a tutelary deity), while around Pungchonchon they hold Sansinje, Seonangje and Georije(street rituals), but the focus was on Seonangje and Georije. Around Seongdongcheon, the focus was on Sansinje and Georije although three types of Sansinje, Seonangje and Georije were all held. Around Guljicheon, Sansinje was not often held.
In villages around Pungcheoncheon, Seongdongcheon and Guljicheon, dogs are used as offerings in these rituals. While we cannot know of the details on Georije due to the lack of reports on the rituals in the Gangwon Province area, it can be said that Georije is not a common ritual. Moreover, it was even rarer to use dogs as offerings in such rituals. Unless it is a ritual praying for rain, it is also rare to find cases where dogs are used as offerings in village rituals.
It requires further review to confirm whether using dogs as offerings in Georijes around these villages is a practice limited to villages around the three streams of Pungcheoncheon, Seongdongcheon and Guljicheon, or whether it is more common across all thirty streams that form Hongcheon River.
