Types of Free Dative in Czech and Implications for Simplex Classification

국문 초록 (Abstract)

격은, 그 개념에 있어 현실 세계에 바탕을 두고 언어학적 의미를 구성하고 있
는 수, 시제, 인칭과는 달리 그 개념을 명료하게 정의하기가 어려운 명사의 문법
범주이다. 오늘날 격에 대한 연구가 가장 활발히 진행하고 있는 언어학파는 의
심할 바 없이 촘스키주의이다. 이들은 소위 지배·결속이론이라는 통사적 틀 속
에서 격을 한정하여 다루고 있으며 의미론이나 화용론적 접근은 원칙적으로 배
제하고 있다. 그러나 소위 자유여격이라는 격의 한 하위범주는 구조적 형상성보
다는 의미론이나 화용론과 밀접한 연관성을 지닌 문법범주이다. 자유여격은 격
배당자에 의해 지배를 받지 않으며 문장 내에서의 그 외현적 분포는 순수하게
의미와 화용적 동기로 말미암아 이루어지는 격이다: 자유여격의 유형 중 심성적
여격은 이러한 의미론과 화용론에 의존도가 가장 강하여 그 의미나 분포에 있어
전형적 자유여격의 특징을 보인다. 체코어는 자유여격이 존재하는 기타 슬라브
어들 중 그 유형이 매우 다양하고 자유여격과 지배여격을 구분하기가 상당히 어
려울 경우가 있다.
본 연구는 오랫동안 체코 언어학계가 사용해온 자유여격의 유형을 분류하는
방식을 보다 체계화하기 위한 한 방안으로 이분법적 분류방식을 제안한다. 이는
앞에서 언급한 자유여격의 일부 유형들이 지배의 성격을 일정정도 표출할 때 분
류체계에 발생할 수 있는 불일치성을 최소화하고자 다음과 같은 단순한 분류방
식을 모색한 것이다: 감정이입 여격 對비감정이입 여격
본 논문은 이러한 이분법적 분류방식의 합리성을 주장하기 위하여 각각 의미
론적 근거와 통사론적 근거를 제시할 것이다. 자유여격의 전형적 특징으로 알려
져 있는 자유로운 어순과 특히 접어그룹 속에서 아무런 어순상의 제약을 받지
않는 문장배치는 이러한 분류방식에 또 다른 근거를 제시할 수 있는 흥미로운
언어학적 현상일 될 수 있다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Case is the linguistic category hardly defined in a clear notion.
Chomsky's approach to case is still dominant in recent trends of
linguistics. Treatment of case in this framework is restricted
almost entirely to discussions of syntax and is not considered
under cognitive semantics or pragmatics. Free dative is the
grammatical category which is involved in the semantics or
pragmatics than structural configuration. This dative is not
governed by its case assigner and its overt use in the sentence is
motivated semantically or pragmatically: dativus ethicus as one of
the uses of free dative is the typical example of strong dependence
on semantics and pragmatics.
There are various types of the free dative in Czech and in some
cases it is difficult to recognize the boundary line between
governed dative and free dative. This study tries to formulate the
systematic classification of the types of free dative. To minimize
the vagueness this paper suggests the simplex classification:
Empathic dative vs. Non-empathic dative. It provides semantic and
syntactic foundations for upholding the dichotomy. The final chapter
discusses free word order within clitic clusters which is typical of
the free dative.
