Title: A Study of Peace Education Focusing on Korean Peace Education
The aim of this study is to find a road map that would spread peace education in Korea. Through examination of two different peace education programs that were implemented by peace organizations in Korea, this paper will explore methods through which peace education can work more actively for people.
In chapter I, the purpose and method of this paper will be introduced. Chapter II will introduce the meaning of peace and the concept of peace education. Also, the history of peace education and detailed programs will be examined. In chapter III, two different peace education programs of the Friends of Peace and the Conflict Resolution Center in Korea will be compared and evaluated based on the theory of David Hicks called a root of peace education. The future direction of two organizations will also be examined.
Chapter IV will discern the future direction of Korean peace education. Conflict resolution education, environment education, unification education, and cultural diversity education are all considered to be categories of peace education. In this chapter, basic introduction and good examples of each education will be presented, which in the future might facilitate the development of peace education in Korea.
In Chapter V, the importance of peace will be emphasized again. The way of maintaining peace should be achieved through peace education. The obstacles and future task for better peace education in Korea will be discussed. The idea of coexistence and peace only can be kept through education, and education should be accomplished based on peace concept.
