Yangseong Fortress still remains the ruins of the fortress at Munui-myeon Cheongwon-gun. It's constructed time is in the year 17(474) of Silla Jabimaripgan. Therefore, its importance is widely known as the mountain fortress of Silla. Yangseong Fortress has been confirmed to have had a fortress wall, 曲城, the site gate, 水口, a large pond, 遮斷壁 and the site building. It seems that the fortress wall is built on 內外夾築. It has a unique structure that has reinforced the foundation work of masonry. In addition, there is the site gate at Yangseong Fortress where a narrow valley lies. It is similar to the site gate at Samnyun Fortress. In the fortress wall of Yangseong Fortress, the drainage hole that runs right through the fortress wall has been found. It is seen mainly at the fortress during the Silla period, such as the Chungju Fortress in Chungju, Ondal Fortress in Danyang, Samnyun Fortress in Boeun, Bumo Fortress in Cheongju and Gomo Fortress in Moonkyoung. The entrance and exit of the drainage hole in the Yangseong Fortress is ㅁ-shaped, while the drainage holes of the other fortresses are shaped differently. Thus, the Yangseong Fortress is different from the other fortresses. The pond was discovered in the Yangseong Fortress. It is a 圓池 with a round-flat. The pond was constructed and used in three periods. It also has the unique feature of draining more than three drainage holes to alternate the water level. In the Yangseong Fortress, most of the excavated relics are fragments of pottery from the Three Kingdoms Period. Besides, most of the collected relics were common relics of the 9th century, including fragments of large, hardened pottery. This period is affiliated with the 豪族, and it is ascertained that the relics were used at this time. The sort of celadon used from Early Koryo to Late Koryo has been discovered. This proves that the Yangseong Fortress holds significance during the whole period of Koryo.
