Smartphones are inevitable tools in our daily lives and have become the new prey of choice for nefarious hackers equipped with emerging technology.
However, despite the growing security threats to our devices, there is still a lack of research investigating the latest hacking threats and new vulnerabilities in mobile devices. This is partly due to the underreporting of hacking incidents and limited knowledge dissemination regarding relevant technologies.
Due to the recent SKT hacking incident, awareness of the risks associated with SIM swapping has grown, although the low number of cases in Korea had previously led to a lack of recognition of its seriousness. To this extent, this study conducts a content analysis to provide a systematic review of relevant literature to fill this research gap. Particularly, this study has two purposes.
First, it aims to develop scenario-based case studies to raise awareness of security threats in the military domain. Second, it aims to provide foundational studies addressing countermeasures for the future. Contributions, results, and policy implications are discussed in the final section.
