The purpose of this study was to examine the mediating effect of competition preparation on the relationship between grit and sport confidence among student-athletes. To achieve this goal, data were collected from 379 middle and high school student-athletes registered with the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee. Confirmatory factor analysis and Cronbach’s alpha were conducted to verify the validity and reliability of the measurement tools. Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and structural equation modeling were employed to test the model fit and analyze the significance of the paths.
The results indicated that grit positively influenced both competition preparation and sport confidence.
Furthermore, competition preparation not only affected sport confidence directly but also mediated the relationship between grit and sport confidence. These findings provide meaningful evidence that highlights the importance of achieving a multidimensional preparation state, thereby addressing the limitations of previous studies that focused solely on distinguishing between physical and psychological preparation.
