루만의 자기생산 체계 개념과 그 사회이론사적 의의 = Luhmann`s Autopoietic System Concept and Its Significance from the Viewpoint of the History of Social Theories

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study examines Luhmann`s autopoietic system in his Supertheorie context and tries to clarify its significance from the viewpoint of the history of social theories. The aim of this study is not to make a general introduction to his Supertheorie, though it is not well-known to Korean scholars in its full aspect. Rather, this thesis focuses on analyzing the autopoietic system concept itself, which Luhmann introduced in the course of his Supertheorie project for himself, and tries to figure out the theoretical meanings of Luhmann`s ideas about human beings and society. In this way, this study would make a contribution to the understanding of the Korean scholars on the system theory of Luhmann. Starting from the perspective of system/environment difference, Luhmann`s Supertheorie aims to explain social relations in all their dimensions. Luhmann`s system is autopoietic system. It could be said a closed system in terms of the self-constituting elements and system operation, while it is an open system in terms of material and energy aspect. Luhmann describes organisms, psychical systems, and social systems as an autopoietic system from the context of the general system theory. He defines social systems as an autopoietic system where Kommunikation produces Kommunikation. This study suggests as an appropriate translation of Kommunikation the term (social) Gyo-Tong meaning giving and taking information in order to avoid the wrong translation So-Tong used by preceding studies. Based on the autopoietic system concept, Luhmann manages to grasp psychical systems and social systems as independently working realities. This understanding opens up new perspectives and introduces new analysis methods, which have been unthinkable in the traditional scheme of Society is more than the sum of individuals.
