The purpose of this study are to analyze changes of trip patterns and to examine the level of jobs-housing mismatch in Busan metropolitan area. Busan metropolitan area delineated by using function linkage index between central city and surrounding areas, include Gimhae, Yangsan and Changwon as well as Busan. According to the analysis on the commodity patterns for 1995 and 2010, the business center of Busan metropolitan area has been changed, the self-sufficiency level of Gimhae has increased, and the inter-relationship between Changwon and Busan has been forced. The excess commodity of Busan metropolitan area is approximatedly 36% due to the jobs-housing mismatch. This means that Busan metropolitan area has an inefficient spatial structure. Therefore, the most alternative policy option is to reduce social costs by decreasing distances between the residential locations and the locations of available jobs in order to improve the efficency of urban spatial structure and the sustainability of Busan metropolitan area.
