Nowadays, the word ``life`` attracts our attentions as the societal problems such as excessive competition and the trend to make light of human life and the environmental crises such as global warming and the destruction of ecosystem are getting more serious. It is hence required to develop the curriculum of life respect education to overcome the life crises and to build a sustainable society based on balance, harmony, and togetherness. This study is a basic study to develop a curriculum for teaching respect of life for young children. The purposes of this study were multifold. First, it examined the contents of life respect education included in the Korean Kindergarten Curriculum. Second, based on the literature review, this study investigated how the life respect education is practiced in early childhood classrooms. Third, it examined the Buddhist philosophy of life for the philosophical background for developing the life respect education curriculum. Forth, it speculated the implications of the Buddhist philosophy of life on early childhood education. Finally, this study suggested several tips for developing and practicing the life respect education curriculum. In the curriculum of life respect education, young children should be able to build a strong and healthy value system about respecting life based on a broad understanding about life and to practice their mind of love and respect for life in daily life. For the effective implementation of the curriculum, the topics and subjects of the curriculum should be in complimentary relations with those of the Kindergarten Curriculum and early childhood teachers need supports to develop their knowledge and understanding about life respect education.
